SPL review 30-31 August

The Old Firm derby was as exciting as you'd expect. Rangers beat Celtic 4-2 at Celtic Park in a game where 2 players (Daniel Cousin and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink) were sent off. 2 goals from ex Celtic player Kenny Miller sunk the hearts of the home team, Daniel cousin scored the games opener with a tremendous solo effort. Man of the match Pedro Mendes scored one of the goals of the season with a superb drive from 30 yards. Giorgios Samaras and Shunsuke Nakamura got the goals for Celtic.

On Saturday all 5 away teams won which is something to remember for a pub quiz one day.

Motherwell
finally got their first win of the season with a john Sutton goal enough to beat Hibs.

Aberdeen were lucky to get a win over a tenacious St. Mirren who could have done with a point. Darren Mackie got the only goal of the game.

Hamilton were beaten by a superior Hearts team and it looks like the honeymoon period for Accies is over. 2-1 the final score.

Douglas Imrie's goal 5 minutes from time gave Inverness Caley the win over Falkirk who took the lead on the hour mark. Caley came back to win 2-1.

Dundee United were surprised by Kilmarnock who beat the home side 2-0. goals from Gavin Skelton and Danny Invincible giving Killie the 3points.

Rangers are top of the league on goal difference with Killie second. It looks like my pre season predictions of Falkirk and St. Mirren fighting it out in the relegation zone looks likely to come true. dundee united were tipped to fight for a UEFA cup place this year but haven't got their season going yet.

Feel free to post any questions in the comment box.

*For anyone in the US - De Marcus Beasley was injured for the Old Firm game, Maurice Edu was on the bench and almost got on but Cousin's sending off forced Walter Smith to re-think his subs. Hopefully he'll get his debut soon.
