US Open Cup: And Then There Were Four

Last night's action means there will be one MLS team and one USL team in this year's US Open Cup final.

USL Division One sides, the Seattle Sounders and the Charleston Battery sent their two MLS contestants back to the top flight last night in the US Open Cup quarter final match ups.

After a scoreless battle, Seattle dispatched the Kansas City Wizards in a penalty shootout to earn their spot in the US Open Cup semi finals, while the Charleston Battery soundly defeated FC Dallas by a 3-1 margin.

On the other side of the bracket, the other penalty shootout of the night didn't go the way of the underdog, as the last USL Division Two side standing, Crystal Palace Baltimore, lost a heart breaker to the New England Revolution, while D.C. United defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1.

Next up, the Sounders will face the Battery on August 12th at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, while the Revs visit D.C. United at RFK Stadium. Stay tuned for ticket announcements.
