2008 SuperLiga – Match Day One Summary

CD Guadalajara 2 - DC United 1

Omar Arellano and Gonzalo Pineda scored for CD Guadalajara to get the winning started for the Mexican Primera División side last night at RFK Stadium.

Luciano Emilio slotted home in the 76th for United and DCU looked to draw even one minute later but Jaime Moreno's penalty kick was saved by goalie Luis Michael.

Taking a page from the Euro semis, the game was delayed for 19 minutes in the second half when lights malfunctioned at RFK Stadium. Pay those power bills boys!

Houston Dynamo 4 – Atlante 0

Stuart Holden scored twice and Dwayne De Rosario nodded one home in the first half to give the Dynamo a 3-0 lead going in to the break. Brian Mullan added a fourth in the 54th minute as Houston shellacked Atlante 4-0 in the other side of Group A play last night.

De Rosario got the scoring started for Dynamo by heading home a Brad Davis free kick in the 20th minute. One minute later, Geoff Cameron crossed a Christmas present to Stuart Holden in front of an open net. Holden slotted his second of the night in the 29th minute off a pass from Wade Barrett.

Brian Mullan earned his second half strike as Cameron again assisted on a pass in to dangerous territory; Mullan did his part to slide in and put the ball on target and in the back of the net.

The night was not without its losses for Houston, as De Rosario and Atlante’s Mustafa tussled their way to red cards just before the half time break.

Action resumes today as Group B gets underway.
