The second running of the North American SuperLiga is set to kick off tonight at 8:00PM EST when D.C. United take on CD Guadalajara at RFK Stadium. The other Group A match begins a couple of hours later as Houston Dynamo kick start their run for the million dollar prize against Atlante at Robertson Stadium in Houston.
The North American SuperLiga is CONCACAF's version of the insanely successful UEFA Champions League, but with such slim pickens on this side of the pond, the tournament essentially pits the top four finishers from MLS against the top four finishers from Primera División de México.
Despite the lack of mainstream media coverage for the 2008 SuperLiga, I expect all of these sides to bring their best; the one million dollar winner's purse is the largest ever in a North American football competition. Stay tuned for media and match updates as we get them.
